Hey sailors and would-be sailors--

I've been deluged and this is only a momentary surfacing. Thanks to all
who offered to help--sorry I didn't get back with any firm dates. I ended
up not going to the boat at all last weekend, and only on Saturday this
weekend. I did get there on Monday last week and I'm headed there now (if
I can beat the storm), but the rest of my life responsibilities have the
nerve of getting in the way (those little life responsibilities that enable
me to pay for having a boat)!

This week we're finishing the wood (if the weather cooperates) and
finishing filling and fairing some spots on the keel. We also need to wash
and wax the boat, and paint the bottom with this gorgeous (if toxic) copper
paint. These are multi-person jobs to do quickly, and the regular spring
lineup of Sailor Mike, Igor, and Eric, and special teams Anne, Nell and
Maria, could use some new people rotating in (I do have to credit Merril,
Paul and Deb for trying to rotate in only to meet schedule, weather, or
lack-of-communication-from-me conflicts).

Right now it looks like the work *could* be done on Saturday the 15th. On
the 16th I'm booked all day (skating and building commitments) and then
available again on the 17th. The boat may be able to go in weather and
work permitting on the morning of the 18th, if not then the next window is
Friday afternoon the 21st or Saturday the 22nd. We'd like to take a *few*
people on the river trip if we can arrange the drop off and pickup
arrangements. It's a pretty cool trip.

Check the very tentative schedule below. Hope to see some of you folks soon.

DIRECTIONS (driving) to the boatyard
The boat's located at Croissant Marina, approximately S. 142nd St. , just
east of Torrence Avenue, in the fenced part of the yard. I usually take
the Dan Ryan to the Bishop Ford (used to be Calumet Expy)--the left fork at
the end of the Dan Ryan (to stay on I-94, vs. the right fork, which is
I-57). I get off at the Dalton exit going east, take Dalton to Torrence
(at that point Dalton has become State street), where there is a stoplight
(I haven't counted stoplights to that point yet, but it's about a mile from
the expressway). Turn left (north) at Torrence and go over the bridge and
take your first left at the bottom of the bridge (there should be a sign
there for the Waterfront Pub). Take that street (I think it's 143rd) until
it hits the gravel lot and bear right around the fenced section. There's a
lot by the Waterfront Pub, which will be on your left, or you can park
along the fence (ther are too many boats right now to pull your car in any
further) Walk east (the direction you were driving in the yard) until the
opening and turn right into the yard and follow the line of boats along the
fence. The stern is facing the road, so you should be able to see the
Sloop's location when you're coming in.
